Book Review: RSVP by Helen Warner
What happens when a girl gets an invite to the wedding of the love of her life? That's what happens to Anna, whose college boyfriend for whom she still carries a torch is about to marry Rachel. Her logical mind is telling Anna that attending the wedding will bring closure, but did you logical mind relay the message to her heart? Clare, Anna's best friend is also invited to the wedding, and is about to receive a big surprise of her own. And then there's Ella. Ella that caused the rift between Anna and Toby in the first place, and is married to an older man. She has her sights set on Toby, as well. Rachel, the bride to be, has a strong sense that something is about to go terribly wrong, which, in fact, it does, with delightful and surprising consequences. Really. Surprising. THis book will keep you guessing, at least it did me.
The story is told by four narrators, each relating her own point of view, which has the added benefit that none of the characters seem one dimensional or like stereotypes. Even Ella, self-proclaimed "femme fatale," has a reasonably developed inner life. This is a good read and I recommend it.
